La Quiniela is a Spanish lottery game organized by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado based on the soccer matches of the Spanish League of first and second division, matches of the King's Cup, matches of the Champions League, UEFA, and matches of national teams and other European Leagues. The winning combination is offered punctually every day once all the matches are finished, in this same page. Each week one or two betting days are held, one during the week usually with Champions League matches, Copa del Rey matches, or first and second division matches, and another one on Saturday and Sunday usually with first and second division matches.

La Quiniela de Fútbol, a classic

The first Quiniela de Fútbol took place on September 22, 1946, months after the government created the Patronato de Apuestas Mutuas y Benéficas in April. This Quiniela consisted of 7 matches and the result and goals to be scored by each team were predicted. This first Quiniela had a price of 2 pesetas and the collection was 77,060 pesetas. In September 1948 the 1X2 prediction system was introduced and instead of predicting 7 games, 14 games were predicted. The next big change in the Quiniela took place in September 1988 when the Pleno al Quince was introduced with a special category that rewarded tickets that had correctly predicted the 14 matches in addition to the match that formed the Pleno al 15. The figures of the Quiniela de Fútbol are impressive since during the more than 60 years of this game, the total collection has exceeded 10,600 million Euros and more than 35,000 matches have been played in more than 2,500 matchdays.

The current format

Since that year, with the exception of one year in which the Full 15 was suppressed, the format has been to predict 14 matches, to guess in each match if the first team wins (prediction at 1), if they tie on goals (prediction at X), or if the second team wins (prediction at 2). In August 2014, a new system is introduced to predict the match that forms the full fifteen, the bettor must guess the number of goals scored by each team in the match. With this new system to predict the full fifteen, the player must choose for each team 0,1,2, or more than 2 goals (M).

The probability of getting 10 correct predictions is 1/59049 = 0.0017%. How to play

To participate you have to fill in a ticket which is made up of 8 blocks, each one with 14 games to be predicted at 1X2 and the Pleno al Quince which has to be predicted at 0,1,2,M. To play an individual bet, you have to fill in 14 predictions in each block, with a minimum of 2 blocks and a single prediction of the Full 15. You can also play multiple bets, marking in a single block from 1 to 14 doubles and/or from 1 to 9 triples resulting in a number of bets ranging from 2 bets if you mark 1 double and 0 triples to 31,104 bets if you mark 7 doubles and 5 triples.

Result of La Quiniela

The first category is obtained by matching the 5 numbers of the winning combination plus the key number. In case of matching the key number with the number played, the player obtains as an additional prize to the one obtained, the amount of the bets he/she has played on that ticket.
