The lottery in Chile: duopolio

In the territory of Chile, two lottery companies physically operate: "Polla Chilena de Beneficencia" and "Lotería de Concepción".

Polla Chilena de Beneficencia

Polla Chilena de Beneficencia is the Chilean state company in charge of administering games of chance in Chilean territory, together with La Lotería de Concepción. Its headquarters are located in Santiago de Chile.

The Don Santiago Lottery was created in 1869 and was maintained until 1934. The Junta Central de Beneficencia y Asistencia Social was authorized to carry out 4 lottery draws per year. Afterwards, it came to control all types of games of chance in Chile. It became Empresa del Estado Polla Chilena de Beneficencia and later became a Sociedad Anónima in October 1989, continuing under this name at present.

The 5% of the sales of the raffles form a Beneficiary Fund that is given to a group of charitable institutions.

Concepción Lottery

The Lotería de Concepción, known in Chile as "Lotería" for short, is a Chilean company dedicated to games of chance. It was formed in the city of Concepción in 1921, being the manager of Lotería chosen by the rectorship of the Universidad de Concepción.
